Known for half of its one season run as "Mrs. G. Goes to College," The Gertrude Berg Show brought back the long-time star of the early Golden Age sitcom The Goldbergs. In this case, Berg starred as a recently widowed older woman who decides to enroll in college and live with the students and a visiting professor in a campus boarding house. The comedy sprang from the generational and cultural situations created by her decision.

Mrs. G Goes to College (also called The Gertrude Berg Show) on CBS. It was the first time she had appeared on series television as any character other than Molly Goldberg. Gertrude Berg played Sarah Green, an elderly widow pursuing the education denied her by a poverty-stricken youth.
